iPods will update when synched.

My newest laptop running XP (arrived on Thursday) is showing 3 hours ahead of time. I guess the time is right if I were on the East Coast, but I'm not. I changed it manually.

All of my machines did fine...
I have one box that functions as an NTP server for my network, its running OS X server which was patched.

so...

8 OS X boxes - yes
2 linux boxes - yes
1 bsd router - yes
various network devices (voip phones, airports, etc) - yes

windows xp laptop - yes ... its joined to my company's domain and the VPN has been connected all weekend... I suspect its syncing from our domain controller, but I'm not 100% sure...they may have pushed a patch too

From what I understand, NTP keeps itself on UTC, but the zone files are used
by other applications to present(display) the local time, run scheduled jobs (cron, at etc.. )

Even if your NTP server was not patched.. it would have still kept other systems
in sync.

All machines changed perfectly, WM6 device changed too, but didn't show the popup about it till this evening :D

I didn't have any problems either. :) (Why is that funny? I'm in HST.)

I do keep my laptop on Pacific time and it updated automatically.

cpx is correct. NTP is UTC. Native time is also kept in UTC in most operating systems. Most TOD chips count "ticks" since a well-known date called the epoch.

The type and format of the date/time returned to applications depends on the library or system call they use.

I'm going to have to plug in my DirecTiVo to a phone line. :(

Apparently, the schedules must be stored in UTC, as I got a PTCM that said everything will still record fine whether or not you download the software update, but the time will be wrong on-screen.

I think everything else that was supposed to automatically change did with whatever patches were automatically downloaded. For the Blackberry, I had to manually download the patch, as I never do a desktop synch.
I figure there are some things, though, that are supposed to automatically change, and since I manually changed them, they might change again in a few weeks (TV/VCR/that sort of thing).

One of my laptops changed, one didn't.... :(

Both are still on NY time, I'm not there but do the calc in my head.

Confusion reigned for a little while until I figured it out.

3 windows 2000 machines at work switched,
3 XP desktops at home all switched
3 Vista desktops at home all switched
1 XP notebook at home switched
1 XP Pro notebook didn't switch - until I checked the Automatically Adjust to DST box (DOH!)
1 DirecTiVo switched, 1 was waiting until 2AM to restart (did it manually though)
IPAQ switched
Forgot to check the Axim.

just realized I have way too many computers.

All computers fine; I did notice that one VCR didn't automatically reset. (It's one of those that monitors the time signal off a PBS station.)

tev9999 Mar 12, 2007 8:32 am

My cell phone is having issues. It is often time zone challenged. It did not update so I set the time manually. It then reset itself to standard time. I set it to Nova Scotia to be GMT -4 to get it right.

Yes, I discovered that later in the day.

The only thing I had to set manually was 1 VCR, and I imagine that will be corrected when the local PBS station gets their software up to speed.

Im in the same boat....everything recorded fine, but one of my boxes is an hour behind.

2 OS X laptops = fine
1 WinXP desktop = fine
1 Win2k laptop = required manual patch from MS
1 BB 8703e = fine
Delta 767 Airshow = showing wrong "local time" at destination on my BUD-JFK flight yesterday.

iCorpRoadie Mar 12, 2007 9:52 am

Yes, everything that is with me on the road changed, have to see what didn't happen at home.

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 12:00 am.
