Linux 101?
I have installed Ubuntu on an old lappy. Now I have to install some drivers. I have looked online at what purport to be step-by-step guides and am falling down on the job.
Is there a resource that would give me what I need to know to be reasonably competent in getting and keeping a linux machine running in, say, several hours? Thanks for any tips. |

At least not IMO. Linux is great, I love it...but I'm a complete tech geek with literally days to spend troubleshooting stuff if need be. What you're currently experiencing is the reason that Linux may never be "ready for prime-time" with respect to the casual user. |
I'm really looking for more of a conceptual overview of how Linux is organized/what it does, then I think I'll be able to follow along better with the how-to guides and the forums discussions.

Go to your local bookstore and buy Linux for Dummies. Or Google it and find an online version.
