Permanantly turn off "Reading Layout"?

I can't stand opening a MS Word file from someone and having it open in the "Reading Layout" format. I know where the close button is int he tool bar but I want to never see the reading layout again. I have looked and can't find how to turn it off permanently.

How do I turn it off??

Here's a link-

-that says to do the following:

1. Click the "Tools" menu and choose "Options".
2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click "General".
3. Uncheck "Allow starting in Reading Layout".
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

If using Outlook 2007 the first time you open an attachment if asks you if want to turn off reading pane view for good. I did that ^
