Audio email
 

I get tired of typing my emails and was wondering if recording audio messages wouldn't be better especially now that most of my contacts have 2GB Gmail accounts.

Does anyone use such software? And is there anything out there that works with Gmail? I did some searching but couldn't really find what I was looking for...

Dunno about gmail but I rember Onebox.com's service used to read your e-mail to you and you could turn voice messages to e-mail. see if they are still at it. Costs money though.

That looks like a corporate solution - I was hoping for a small application or a plugin that lets you record your voice, compresses it and then attaches it to an email...

There are several freeware programs that let you record to a mono mp3 file. I've used freehiqrec and found it quite good (this is not an endorsement of this particular program, just using it as an example).
Of course you have to attach the mp3 to the email and send.
But it would be very handy to have this done automatically.
The only down-side I can see is that the person receiving the "voice" email has to listen to it. Far better to be able to read an email. They would need voice-to-text conversion.

Thanks I'll check that one out. I really *love* Google Talk's voicemail function. When someone's offline you can record a message and directly send it. But they have to be on your buddy list - most (95%) of my contacts are not.
