Bluetooth headsets: ridiculous?

I get a chuckle when, strolling through the mall or grocery store, I see an occasional "borg wannabe", with the blinking headset hanging off the ear. Of course, the owner is not talking or using it, rather, "standing by" for the inevitable urgent phone call.....walk, blink, walk, blink....

Anyone else find this practice comical or ridiculous? I wholeheartedly support using a headset when driving, but for heavens sake, take it off when it's not in use. It's not a fashion accessory!

Is this my old age cynicism creeping in?!!!

I usually don't rock the headset when I'm not talking, but my headset is comfortable enough that I sometimes forget that I have it on. I previously used the Motorola HS-820, and now I use the Motorola H700. Both have a flip out boom that turns it on/off so the majority of the time I flip it open/closed at the start/end of each call.

Everyone is wearing them nowadays. There has to be some kind of public service announcement that lets these people know that they look like dorks.

No...because it's ridiculous

(But I love mine...really improves the volume over my RAZR. I definitely take it off after the call ends.)

My old boss sported one for awhile. After a few beverages at last year's xmas party we all filled him in on how he looked in it. We never saw it again!

I use one, but I hate having it on/in my ear all the time.
I discovered that the lanyard that comes with my flash drive is perfect for hanging it around my neck when not in use.

The may not be using, it but why do you think they cant be expecting - or hoping - for a phone call. It is a weird looking too, but if you need your hands free, shopping would be one of those times. No/

I think it looks unfashionable, but hey, each unto their own.

It certainly IS ridiculous! Especially those few who sport it on a plane at 36000 feet, obviously turned off!

No old age cyncicism!

Well, I will not argue that I may look ridiculous. To each his own! However, mine is on my ear quite a bit. When I am out and about shopping, many times I am listening to music through it. It automatically pauses Windows Media Player when a call comes in. It also beeps me when I get email and sms messages.

I remember similar thoughts about appearances when the Sony Walkman hit the scene. We used to make fun of the kids who walked around wearing their headphones all the time. Now it is common to see the white earbuds of a iPod in a person's ear and think nothing of it.

I think that as time passes, nobody will give a second thought to a person wearing a bluetooth headset.

Cheers!

They look absolutely ridiculous and anyone that is wearing one unused, please know that at least half the people you see think you look foolish (maybe more like 75%!)

Call me ridiculous if you want but I love the thing. I just started using mine about a month ago and since I am in the IT industry it is great to be talking to someone and have both hands free to type on the computer.
