IE7 caution

IE7 seems to still be a bit clunky ... Im going to stick firefox till they get the issues worked out. Anyone else having these type problems with IE7?:

1) no ftp capability (I dont think this is a bug, but I sure hope it eventually has it)

2) always hanging up (seeming worse when trying to display large pdfs)

3) file upload and download ops quirky (sometimes works sometimes not)

On a brighter note IE finally got tabbed browsing!!

Not sure why you say this...I can get to FTP sites without a problem.

your right! apparently this was a beta problem that was supposedly fixed. However I still am unable to connect to secure ftp sites that require username and password. are you able to do this? did you have to tweek any settings?

It should open a window for you to type in the username and password. That's the way it works for me.

I've had none of the problems you listed. But I just downloaded it and installed it 2 days ago...so my version might have already been de-bugged for these things.

I haven't found any problems with it at all. It's taking me some time to get used to everything and find out where they've moved some old features...but it seems all there to me.

The only tweaking I did was to go into Advanced Internet Options and turn off the "Always Use Clear Type For HTML" feature. I know some folks think it's easier to read with Clear Type...but I find it just a bit to soft and fuzzy for my poor old eyes.

Can anyone tell me how to restore the handy "find on this page" function now that I've switched to IE7?

I went into the google toolbar options and checked on the highlight and search this page options, but all that did was put a grayed-out (clicking on it does nothing) highlighting icon on the google toolbar.

I thought it was IE6 and not google that offered the find feature before, but I could be wrong. I just want it back!

If you upgraded IE with the Google toolbar installed, uninstall the Google toolbar and reinstall it.

I found I was missing options (i.e. right click, Open in new tab option) after the upgrade, and it was due to the Google toolbar using an older version of a dll.

Can I get rid of the "Command Bar"?

Slightly OT perhaps, but can you tell me if it is possible to get rid of the "Command Bar" in IE7 ?

I have no use for it, and it takes up unnecessary space in the relatively small monitor that I use.

Thanks.

Hide the Command Bar shortcuts only
1. regedit
2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\CommandBar
3. Create a new DWORD called Enabled with Value 0
4. close regedit

Removing the entire Command Bar
1. regedit
2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions
Important Note: The above branch does not exist by default. You need to create them manually
3. Create a new REG_DWORD value named NoCommandBar
4. Double-click NoCommandBar and type 1 as its Value data
5 Close regedit

Also...if you just hit your ALT key at any time...you'll see all the old File/View/Favorites/Tools/Help items temporarily appear up top just like they were in IE6. And if you want them to stay there...just right-click in up in the Google area and select "Menu Bar" and it will stay there.

("Find On This Page" appears under "Edit")
