Eudora going open source
 

Qualcomm is dropping Eudora, and turning the code over to the open source community (Mozilla Foundation)

They released the final commercial versions earlier in October, version 7.1 for Windows and version 6.2.4 for Mac ($19.95).

Here's hoping it stays alive and grows.

I have used Eudora for years and wouldn't use anything else.

I've used Pegasus Mail for the last 13 years; but if I had to switch it would be to Eudora.

I've used Eudora since v1.0. My support for v7.0 expired a couple of weeks before v7.1 was released. I never need support, and I can't stand ads. I guess it doesn't make sense to pay them any money if it will be free soon. Then again, it is only $19.95 for the upgrade... I, too, am curious what this means. It sounds as if the ads will continue as it mentions being allowed to use sponsored or paid mode (depending on whether you've sent them money in the past) into perpetuity... Is that for the open-source version or the current one? It's not clear.

Well, if they truly open-source it, disabling ads should be relatively easy.

I stopped using Eudora years ago, Outlook because so much better, and now Thunderbird . But I guess email is such a personal thing...
