Looking for a Wifi/Bluetooth MiniPCIe module...
Here is the story; I have a notebook here with an Intel 3945ABG miniPCIe module; it has no Bluetooth. On the HP website there is an option for an Intel 3945ABG WITH Bluetooth. I need THAT module. I've searched high and low, called HP and even attempted to email with them, but they are about as useless as a fart in a spacesuit.
So; who can help me find a Wifi/Bluetooth module in miniPCIe that'll fit an HP dv6120US? I really don't want a USB module and it doesn't take PCCard (expresscard only). |
Scott...I did a parts search on HP's website:
http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/Se...7TMKU5C2SSF2X0 I appears the part you are looking for (407674-001) is available directly from HP for $95.00. I'm not sure if it is something you could install yourself, or if you'd need a tech to do it. Good Luck ^ |
Scott..sorry the link is not working. If you go to HP's website, go to parts, enter the part # listed in search and it will pull it up.

It does say the card includes bluetooth, but HP along with their tech support can be very frustrating and confusing. I'd definitely check with them about returnability since it is a service part and not a retail item. I was in the same situation as you and wound up using a bluetooth card in my PC slot so I wouldn't have to keep removing a dongle. I'm not sure if there are any bluetooth expresscards out there yet since it is a newer technology. Good Luck!

You may want to check if Dell sells this as they offer a similar set of ABG / Bluetooth options on their laptops.

This is really pissing me off :( These things are nowhere to be found... |
The HP store does have a return policy posted. Try the "Online help" button to see the details, which include these items:
Q: Are all parts returnable? A: No, software and manuals are non-returnable, and any opened consumables such as toner, ink cartridges, and media. Q: Will I be charged a restocking fee? U.S. Customers A: Yes, all good unused returns may be subject to a $25.00 or 15% restocking fee based on (Part Price + Shipping and Handling Charges). Contract customers please refer to your contract for specific details. |
Found it. Stupid HP kept referring to it as a PCIe module, once I found the service manual I noticed that it is some special HP only module. I finally found the part number and ordered it. Thanks for your help everyone!

Scott...do you plan to install it yourself? If so would you post how it went? I'd love to install one in my Compaq laptop, but am a little nervous about doing it myself.

Some machines, like Dell involve simply plugging in a module, the HP has to have a cable routed all the way from the bottom to just under the keyboard. Pretty insane design. |
Got the part. It's the wrong one.
In other news: the HP died today, I got a brand new one but its going up on Ebay and I'll just order a Dell. Dealing with HP is like getting teeth pulled. They are the nr.1 incompetent company I've dealt with in a long time :( |
