Trouble with Treo upon return to US from intl trip

I just got my first Treo and made my first international trip with it last week. Luckily, it worked on the ground in Thailand. But upon returning to the US, it crashed. There were three of us in our party with Treos, and all 3 crashed upon re-entry into the US. The result was that the software needed to be reloaded--SIM cards were fine.

Anyone else ever run into this problem when traveling with a Treo and if so, what countries?

Happens quite a bit....

Make sure you take out any SD cards and then while the 'radio' is off, perform a soft reset. That should activate the radio. I have Verizon, so this is what works for me... one the radio is active I do an over the air software update.

I usually have to pop the battery out then back in whenever I get back to the US. Wierd, but it works.

I find the Treo 650 to be very buggy - random resets, syncs don't sync, etc. - so I zero-reset the unit every other month or so.

I've never seen this, travel internationally quite frequently. I've been to Japan (didn't work), UK, Israel, and Switzerland with the Treo.

I have a corporate Blackberry on ATT/Cingular service in the US, and I have to turn it off, take out the battery, lift the SIM card off the contact pad, then replace it all and turn it back on upon return to the states from any extended overseas trip, as do most of my staff.

At least this gives me something to do while I wait in the line for immigration.

So the Treo is not alone in this undocumented feature.

I've never had any problems with my 650. I've had it since the beginning. My version is the unlocked type bought in Asia. I wonder if the branded 650s have their own software problems that crash the phones? Between my family, we have 4 650s and don't have freezing / crashing problems even when traveling all the time.

Treo 600

I also have unlocked Asian version for over 2 yrs, never a problem when returning.

You might want to check networks when you first land - if it's on automatic you should have no problems. If you pre-set to stateside network, it's possible when you use overseas, it switches over and then when you return home, it's still on overseas network setting.

But your Verizon Treo won't work outside North America, except South Korea, and that requires a trip to the Verizon store before you leave to get the South Korean PRL loaded.
