Ideas on check-in bag for banned items?

I am the queen of carry-on baggage and loathe the idea of having to check all my stuff. Does anyone have any ideas on what might work for checking JUST indispensables like my Lancomb makeup, hairspray, and a small number of other items that won't pass muster at security?

I think that you either have to check them or ship them. I shipped last week and it worked fine. I think that these are the only two options.

If you want to bring them you need to check them.

I wouldn't check them in a tiny little bag, it has to be big enough not to get mangled in any of the automatic luggage handling.

Or put them in box and ship them.

What's the point? In for a penny in for a pound. If you have to check bags, you might as well check everything you're not going to need on board.

Poll. Raise your hands:

How many pax have EVER had an airline lose, misplace, misroute or smash your checked bag?

I'm on a two day trip. I do not want to be standing in LAX and hear myself mouthing the words "No problem DL, I don't need anything in my bag for two days. No problem you stuck the wrong tag on it, I am so glad my Samsonite is having the educational experience of a trip to Katmandu and back while I'm here in LA with nothing."

I'm going to be shipping, but recent events have made me nostalgic for the hard-sided cosmetic cases that Samsonite et all used to offer as part of their luggage sets - wish I still had mine! That said, i am willing to bet you can easily find one at a Goodwill or other thrift store.

here's one

Looks like Zero Haliburton has one as well for only $525. :)

A camera case, like this, might work, too. Lots of compartments and padding.

Fedex overnight first class will take care of the problem. Insure it for $1k and you are good to go. The bag will be there before you arrive.

The largest bag you have with about 40 Lbs of steel shot in as ballast. Or several bladders full of water. :-)

Try a Pelican case

Hi! FlyerTalk virgin here with his first post, so please be gentle.
Check out Pelican cases (Google them--they have a great web site). They're relatively lightweight, watertight, come in a WIDE range of sizes and shapes, and are tough as hell. Many of the cases also have a pressure-equalizing valve built-in. Best of all, they cost about 80% LESS than Zero Haliburton cases. Pelican cases are often used by film/video/photography pros, EMTs, SCUBA divers, the military, etc. They aren't very pretty, but I dare any baggage handler to break one! Well, break one without really, really trying. ;-D
I'm Mr. Carryon, but just purchased a Pelican case (18"x14"x7" exterior) so my wife, her sister, and I can check our liquids and gels on our Euro flights next month. Weighs about 6.5 lb and it's built like a brick outhouse. B&H Photo-Video in NYC has great prices on them. (I have no financial or personal interest in either Pelican Cases or B&H.) Good luck!

Welcome to FT LocoCoco good first post. I agree with you on the Pelican cases.. great for this kind of thing.. If the OP is out west she can stop by her local Fry's Electronics as well, though I still like my solution :-)
