ESPN Mobile

Ok. I would love to get ESPN Mobile but I am not going to get a Sprint phone just for ESPN Mobile. Ideally, I would like to have the ESPN Mobile features run as an application on Microsoft Windows Mobile (any carrier) and pay a monthly fee to ESPN.

Am I dreaming or is this something that may be feasible?

What does the ESPN application do exactly? There are some apps for the PocketPC that may be able to do the same... Like this:

and:

Then there is also Resco Radio which will let you tune into 100's of radio stations.

Hello,

Mobile ESPN phones and service is now available in 575 (approximately 1/3) Sprint stores around the nation. Sprint previously announced the service would be available in about 500 stores by the end of July. The introduction of Mobile ESPN into stores marks the first time Sprint Nextel has allowed a post-paid MVNO shelf space in its stores. Previously Boost and Virgin Mobile USA were the only non-Sprint brands sold in its stores, since they could be sold as prepaid alternatives to each post-paid service. Mobile ESPN's entry into Sprint's stores also means the Sanyo MM9000 has returned after Sprint discontinued it, in the guise of the ESPN MVP. :)

So, this product is going to see a number of changes, VERY soon.

The product has done so poorly, that both the phones and the service charges are going to 0$ to begin. As well, I think they are going to try to work a deal with sprint to get the service onto other SPRINT phones for a SMALL fee.

with 10,000 users since launch, they are bleeding money. I don't know where I heard it, that it wouldn't go, (hmm) but if you like it it is going to get very cheap to get.

I think two weeks will show.

I heard about 35,000 subscribers, which is about 10% of what they actually projected.

But I've heard there is a ton of pressure to do something about it. Very soon.

ESPN Mobile, Helio, Amp'd... I doubt a single one of them will last till the end of the year. Latest reports were that Helio had scored no more than 150 subscribers .

you mean, 150K subs, right. Helio is just taking off. Have you got some othre info on that?

As I noted, I don't want Sprint service, but I would pay to have an application that was a slick as the ESPN Mobile one and have access to the ESPN exclusive content. I just want to run it on my Windows Mobile device.

Sorry, I was mistaken. It wasn't 150, it also wasn't 150k. It was 100.

Telecoms Korea reported on it first, and many others picked it up:

RIP. Now I just hope they take my advice and sell the service as an application that serves up the content on any Windows Mobile device. I would pay for that!

SFO_Runner Sep 29, 2006 4:11 pm

ESPN would be smart to leverage its ownership by ABC/Disney and relationship with Steve Jobs to piggyback its content onto the long-rumored iPod phone.
