Notebook Traveling Case

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, this laptop is huge. I am on the market for a Sturdy Laptop carrying case. A friend of mine recommended the Kensington Contour Overnight which will fit most notebooks out there. It also has a room for other personal stuff like clothes, etc. He said he had no problem taking it as a carryon luggage when traveling.

I wanted to know if anyone else ever used this Laptop case before? If so what do you think? Also any recommendations on other different ones?

I never would buy a computer case without a road test or an actual close up inspection. I take my computer to a local CompUSA, BestBuy, CircuitCity etc and see how it actually looks, fits and feels.

I have a SwissGear by Wenger computer back pack and it is my best friend on a long trip. It has tons of pockets/zippers to store everything. Make sure you don't buy something that has easy access pockets for thiefs or pockets that spill everything if the bag is accidently turned upside down. Don't be afraid to bring your computer into the store to make sure it fits well or buy from a store with a good return policy so you can actually road test it.

Where would you suggest that one could purchase a Wenger Swiss Gear.

I do not remember exactly where I bought it, I think it was at a discount store like Marshal's. They do have them online http://www.wengerna.com/browse/brows...&sub_cat_id=47 but I do not know where you can actually get the best deal to buy. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

There a small company in San Francisco called Waterfield Designs that makes outstanding, high quality cases for laptops, iPods and just about everything else. I use their sleeve for my Vaio and thne put it into my briefcase. I've had it for 2 years and it still looks new.

Their web address is http://www.sfbags.com

No, I'm not an employee nor do I have vested interest.

Between my wife and I we have 5 or 6 laptop sleeves from these folks. We recently got other bags from them as well. I got a small Cargo Bag. They are so overdesigned and engineered it is almost laughable. Well, it really is laughable. A I was at a meeting in Finland last month and ran into an old friend. I had just gotten my cargo bag and was raving about it. My friend said he had a great bag and wondered if his was better. I handed him the cargo bag and he took it and almost instantly said, "no, mine cant touch this". He builds a lot of instruments and equipment (he is a chemistry professor) and pointed at the buckle on my cargo bag and said "there is more engineering in that buckle than in a lot of American cars" and we both started laughing. The buckle is made of steel and brass. These things are as good as it gets. The laptop bags sleeves are very heavy ballistic nylon with a neoprene lining.

In addition to the quality of the product the customer service is great. My last order had a bunch of stuff which made it a bit confusing in terms of whether some of the things were compatible (because I already had some parts). The owner of the company emailed me about his concern and just wanted to confirm that everything was okay with the order and that I knew what I was getting. I then had some special shipping requirements and called and talked to the owner on the phone. He basically said he could get me the stuff on time and how much extra it would cost to bust up the order in parts and separately FedEx them. I agreed and everything came right as scheduled.

Do a search on them (either Waterfield Bags or SF Bags or www.sfbags.com) here on FT and you will see others commenting on their stuff. I have nothing to do with them either except that I am a VERY satisfied, multiple time customer. Buy stuff from these guys, they are great and you wont regret it.
