Treo 600 upgraded to 650 problem

I have found one big problem.
On my old 600 I could charge the battery with the USB sync cable.
The cable that came with the 650 does not appear to do that and the manual makes no mention of charging without the A/C charger.
Is that a new "feature" of the 650 or do I have the wrong cable...I do know that I can sync successfully with it..
Please don't tell me I need to carry a charger.

It can be done, but the supplied cable won't do it. I have a stash of $7 cables from http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=220002631782

I'm fairly rough on my gear, so I need a new one every few months. Buying a few at a time and saving on shipping always makes sense,

You need a travel charger of some kind or a charging sync cable. Everything is available 3rd party. I like the www.boxwave.com stuff. The versacharger and minisync cable work well.

Just don't use them on Austrian trains: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=567240

It doesn't charge with the USB cable that you sync with, which is very annoying. I bought a Treo 650 just after Christmas and my office has recently gone to a Blackberry server, so I had to switch. I liked the compactness of the Treo (and the built-in multimedia) but I have to say that it seemed much slower than my Blackberry and (I like the bigger keyboard on the Blackberry...I don't have man hands, but even I found the Treo keyboard small-ish).

Well I got a recharge & sync cable from Insten on ebay.
http://insten.com/productdetails.cfm...&productid=594
but I can't find the button on the thing to initiate the sync...
The packaging definitely says:
* rapid synchronization
* charges you PDA while transferring data
Anyone else run into this?

My cable didn't have a button either...I had to initiate the Hotsync from the Treo screen itself.

CPRich,
How do you like your Treo? Would you pick that over Blackberry, motorola, etc.?

Be careful with spending money on cheap sync/charge cables. I bought a couple for my 650 off of Insten. Great price, but they were fragile. After very little use, either the sync or the power connection would start to fail. It wasn't that obvious until I started using PDA Net and Pocket Tunes. Neither of which is very tolerant of signal issues.

Sure, I got what I paid for, but it made me decide to spend a little more. I've have my Seidio s/c cable, with sync button, for a few months now and it still works great. Since I use my 650 as a modem in lots of cases, I need to be sure that the connection between the laptop and the 650 was good.

As for the question about the 650 vs. the blackberry, etc... I travel 50 - 51 weeks a year and I like the convergence. My treo is tricked out to be a video player, MP3 player, gameboy/gamegear, multi-service IM device (AIM, MSN, YM, ICQ), fax machine, mail reader, PDF reader, e-book reader, net device, as well at it's out of the box functionality. My pockets are sure as heck a lot lighter these days vs. when I used to carry different devices for the above functions!!

Not only would I, I have. I upgraded my 600p to a 700p yesterday.

The fact that my IT staff only supports BB's and Treos narrowed the choice. I think the 600 was miles ahead of the competition and the 650 still a bit ahead. If I didn't have the GoodLink restriction, and no history with Treos, the Q may be a viable alternative. But I hated the PPC-6700 that I tried for a couple of weeks, due to Windows Mobile, so I'd probably end up with the 700p anyway.

I always have a few of the cheap USB retractable USB/sync cables around. They are a bit fragile, lasting me 6 months at a time, on average. But that's $24 for the 2 years I expect to keep a phone, so I stay on that path.

Yes. I push the "HotSync" icon on the screen.

Didn't realize that the icon was actually a 'pushable' button until I started using the stylus to hit everything on the screen.
But yes that works.
Tks
