How do I fix broken/corrupted jpeg files?

One of my digital cameras or (more likely) CF cards screwed up some pictures. I have them on a CD and have had no further problems with the card. How can I fix up the pictures? It seems like there are only a few bits missing or corrupted. I'm sure there's a way to do this.

Two sample pictures are here and here.

I'm unaware of any tools out there, but one way would be to
crop the images where you see the breaks and use the
stitch applications to re-stitch them.
Its a lot of work if you have too many of these.

I'm not a jpeg expert.. I just use them

Do you still have the card? Have you taken any pictures on it since? If yes, your best bet would be to open up photoCHOP ;) and cut/paste the pictures back.

There are utilities out there to recover files from cards that go bad, one saved my ... once, don't have it here though to give you the name.

Would only work if the card hasn't been changed, and it's not 100%

By the time I'd realised what had happened the images were off of the card and it had been reformatted and used.
