MacBook Pro sleeves

I retired my beloved Carlton shoulder bag when I got the MBP as the sleeve that came with the bag didn't fit the puter.

I also bought a laptop trolley in YYZ in March and the sleeve included does not fit either.

So I found a belkin shoulder brief I figured might fit in the trolley - no such luck. But the brief looked good and had plenty of compartments for pens and things. I've used it once.

The shoulder strap buckles make a horrible clicking noise when worn cross the body and walking. Makes the hair on my neck stand up as I'm worried that it will break.

So.... Here I am with all these bags that do not fit!

Until....

I find an incase bag on an ebay shop yesterday. It's the slim sleeve 15". Seller didn't know if it would fit the MBP. I checked other sites and on apple it says it does. So I took the plunge and bought it.

It arrived less than an hour ago. Fits the MBP superbly. Slips right in to my beloved Carlton bag, which is now out of retirement andfits the trolley too. Retractable padded handles and a shoulder strap so can use it alone or throw in a carry on or tote.

So if anyone else out there is looking for a sleeve for your MBP, have a look in the apple store. They sell them there.

And no I am not endorsed by any of the above brands. I'm just a bag junkie.

I have the Booq Vyper sleeve and really like it.

I really like my Waterfield bag (http://www.sfbags.com). I have the medium Cargo model and use it as my everyday briefcase, and as a laptop bag when traveling. They also make sleeves that are custom designed to fit specific Apple laptop models (including the MacBook).

Their bags aren't cheap, but they're very well made, and they have superb customer service. They even customized my Cargo with D-rings and a removeable shoulder strap for an extra $15--and still offered me the money-back satisfaction guarantee.

Plus, what FlyerTalker can possibly resist a bag that has an airline seat belt clip on the front of it? ;)

Saw a post from someone here who said they opted out from that beacuse it was too bulky and heavy. Picked the parahute buckles instead. Why?

I have a bag from a trade show (I think it was the Canadian NXNE 2 years ago) that has an airline seat belt buckle on the front. It weighs more than the bag.

Brenthaven products also should work.

They have a very close relationship with Apple and design their products to be compatible with all models as they come out.

I'm curious... what about the MBP made the incompatible sleeves not work out? Was it too thin? Was it the wide aspect ratio?

The sleeve that came with the carlton bag was too short. Although it was exapandable. And expanded it was too long and that section wasn't padded which worried me. It now takes perfect care of my canon i70 inside the laptop trolley.

The sleeve that came with the trolley was on the tight side and I don't want the laptop scratched by zippers and things. I'd say that sleeve is more for a 15" standard than a wide screen.

The incase has a soft terrycloth like inside and more padding than a neoprene sleeve. A pocket for accessories on either side, detachable shoulder strap and retractable handles. It actually fits inside the trolley bag better than the original sleeve. It fits perfectly inside the carlton bag too.

What I like abouut the carlton bag is that there is no flap like there is on brenthave, crumpler and the belkin bag I have. If I want to reach in to the bag to get something I can use one hand to open a zip and keep the other one free. Or, as I would more than likely do, put it on the ground to iopen lift the flap to get inside the bag. Making me a perfect burglar victim (push over and grab).

I have several of the Waterfield sleeves for different notebooks. I have had them for a few years and their stuff is just incredibly well designed and made. Also, their customer service is great. They sent me the wrong bag once, I called and the owner answered the phone. He FedExed the right bag to me the next day with a return slip to send the wrong one back. Really nice guy too, dedicated to doing the best he can do with the products and service. They are just a great company to do business with and I love their stuff.

I have checked out their stuff and like the piggy back options. If I could get their gear here - I'd probably do.

However - currently very happy with the incase bag.

I've been using a Marware Sportfolio I. It can be carried as a briefcase (with the shoulder strap or handles) or I can slip it into a duffel or rollaboard. It fits my PBG4 15; it may be a bit tight for the MBP, but I don't know.

Has anyone tried the Brenthaven Edge?

I'm looking for a slim bag to fit my MacBook Pro 15.4. I found a company called Brenthaven that has a product called the Edge. It looks like a good fit. Is anyone familiar with this product or brand?

Brenthaven bags are fantastic. They are custom-designed for the Mac. I have had the same bag for the last 3 years for my 17". It looks like I bought it yesterday.

Great functionality, solid materials. ^
