MacBook Pro gets speed bump!

Woohoo, they're just starting to ship but they're already giving a speed bump!

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2006...acbookpro.html

New lineup is 1.83GHz, 2.0GHz and 2.16GHz (built to order upgrade).

Now if they'd just ship the 13.3" widescreen model.

iBooks won't cut it. ;)

Haha, hopefully soon!

For people with the MBP on order, I just called and they updated the IVR with info: if you ordered the smaller model, they bumped you to 1.83 for free, and if you ordered 1.83, they bumped you to 2.0 for free, and they're going to send an e-mail to everyone with an order with information about it. It also said orders on the web site will be updated by tomorrow.

Lol.... This will be new to most Apple customers. No longer do they need to wait 2 years for a new CPU upgrade to roll out of the IBM/Motorola plants...

Intel has new chip specs hitting shelves every other week... Welcome to the real world I'd say :D

So its not like with the old machines where you got what they felt like? Sometimes it was upgraded, sometimes it was not?

Not sure I follow your question there...

When they upgraded the last series of ibooks some people got the new CPU, others did not. And there was no way of knowing which chip you received until you opened the box and checked the OS.

I think you mean the Mac Mini? But it was a matter of the specs said "X" and some that shipped were "X+1"... it wasn't like they said you were getting "Y" and they shipped you "Y-1".

In other news, my ship date slipped from Feb 15 to Feb 23 :( So much for "shipping this week!"

I feel for the folks that hacked their Imacs and slipped in a 2.16. :D I am gonna change my order, I don't care if it slips a bit, I want the 2.16!

Can you provide a link to these reports? The only time I know of when this happened is with the Mac Mini, and if customers got anything different, it was better than what was ordered.

I have absolutely never heard of this happening for the Pro line, unless you're talking about when there is a new product announcement, when old versions are revved to equivalent new versions automatically as a matter of practice.

With the recent Mac Mini exception, I am not aware of any instance where what was on the order didn't match what was received as any degree of trend. There are -very- rare occasions where something breaks down, and the wrong configuration is shipped to a customer. These are rectified ASAP and with as little iconvenience to the customer as possible.

yep. bummer. the quotes were wrong. some people have been up for 48 hours straight over it. They're doing what they can to make it as right as they can.

Really, missing leadtimes doesn't happen much anymore. You're more likely to receive a notice saying your order has been delayed and receive it the next day than to see your order take longer than originally quoted. Still, there are occasional foul-ups when it comes to leadtimes, and this was a real unfortunate one.

Feel free to PM your order # to me. I'll keep an eye on it if you'd like.

It happens... just a little heartbreaking to have it happen the day before it's scheduled to ship :) But getting the speed bump before it shipped for free is a good consolation prize.

As a shareholder, I'm elated to see the reaction to the product is so positive. Hopefully you'll get a lot out the door this quarter!

Thanks for offering to check on the order, but I feel like I've asked you to do that too many times and I've not been able to buy you a beer for the trouble you've gone through :(

I'm sure Swise can give a more authoritative answer than I can, but my understanding is the original SKU's were replaced with the new SKU's, and the orders were all automatically converted to the new ones. This is just from reading things on the internet, so take it with the credibility that commands :)
