Dlink....yuck...
 

Today I made the mistake of purchasing another dlink product. This makes the second product in a month that simply doesn't work.

Last time it was their storage enclosure; no matter what I did, it wouldn't show up online. Today it was their DCS-2100+ network camera; wireless doesn't work at all.

I can understand a company having a low amount of DOA products, but this is just silly.

I'm never going to buy another dlink product again :(

I said the same thing after going round and round with their miserable, POS, doorstop of a network media player the DSM-320. Six firmware updates and it still won't play video.

I have two DI-524 routers and a bunch of wireless cards; never a single problem.
I notice a lot of complaints about their newest products (eg MIMO routers) but once they update the firmware a couple times things improve. (alanw it seems in your case it needs seven :D )

Now get this; I got 2 nameless, brandless internet cameras this evening at the same store (2 for the same price as one dlink), and these things are IDENTICAL to the dlink (I opened the dlink up before returning it, to see if something had come loose). Probably the same Taiwanese OEM...

But the kicker is; these nameless things are 100 times better than the Dlink, their software is better and their manuals are better. Plus they work, and the dlink did not.

I am happy again, but will still never buy dlink again.

Maybe D-link is shipping their broken crap to Fry's. :D

I haven't had a single problem with any of the D-Link gear I've purchased, but most of it is tried and true, been around a while wired gear.

I bought a D-link G router a year ago. Never could get it to work.

Three months ago I got their travel router. Worked great right out of the box. Go figure.

Same deal. I HATE D-Link with a passion, but sometimes their products are really good. Their travel router is great, I rely on it constantly. I also use their DVC-1000 i2eye camera with other family members to keep tabs on the nieces and nephews. That works quite well too. But their home networking stuff just seems cursed. It STINKS. Four times out of four now, I've replaced D-link consumer routers/WiFi APs and the problems have evaporated. Normally I drop a linksys piece in and it's all good. All in all I'm amazed D-link is as popular as it is and sells as well as it does considering the stories I've heard and all the half baked product out there.

To me, it looks like D-link uses mainly cheap OEM stuff with their own software. And therin lies the problem; their coders suck. They have a "finder" application for most of their consumer products that is meant to search the lan for the device. This "finder" never works, but with the brandless version of the same product it works just fine.

They were cursing a D-link switch at the office yesterday/today. It was only a short-term quick-fix since the real switch was stolen. They had a pair of them and as of the last I knew the second one was sitting behind the server rack out of the circut because none of us could make it behave. The replacement was supposed to show up this afternoon so it's hopefully moot by now.

My two go-to brands when it comes to sticking something in that'll work *NOW* are Linksys and Netgear. Netgear has some decent low-end equipment. They make some clunkers too but their "upper end" equipment is done well. I think their Pro Safe access points rock... as our Cisco AP350s die off we're replacing 'em with Netgears. No problems whatsoever. They aren't as configurable but we never needed the advanced functionality anyway.
