advice on automatic document feeder (adf) scanner

Hi all, happy new year!!

I am in the market for an adf scanner to digitalize/backup all my papers/bills etc. I am eyeing stand-alone scanners right now but don't know if I should look at all-in-one machines as well? Any suggestions would be great. My price range would be below $400. Thanks!!

I use the Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner to do just that, and it works great. The output of this scanner is a PDF file (automatically or manually) in a directory of your choosing. I then run Abbyy FineReader OCR software on the PDF files to convert them to text. I resave them as PDF files (but use the "text under graphics" format) and then have Google Desktop Search index those PDF files.I save them on my hard drive, then copy them to an external hard drive using FolderMatch, so that they are stored in two places. It works like a charm.

I have an HP Officejet 7xxx series that I am still figuring out. Mine was $269, but they make a higher end model for $399. My scans come out as PDF's as well. Built in memory card readers and copier built in.

Fujitsu ScanSnap is tiny and super easy - comes with the full version of Adobe Acrobat 7 as well

Check Ebay for a used HP Digital Sender 8100c.
