External laptop batteries

I recieved a new laptop for christmas. I love it, but it had dreadful battery life (1.5 hours) I've seen the external laptop batteries out there. Anyone here use one? Are they worth it for the extra size/weight?

I recieved a Toshiba 45M. I love it, but the battery is a killer..

I've been using the APC Universal Notebook Battery for a couple of months. At around $200 USD, not too much more than what a replacement internal battery for my HP nc6000 would cost. Using power saver settings on my laptop I can get 4+ hours from this battery.

I can second th UPB80. I use it with my Vaios. Very lightweight, charges fast, and many hours of juice.

Thanks for the recommendations. I did buy the model you mentioned, and love it already :)

I'm going on a flight this weekend. Can I leave it in the bag, or does it need a seperate little car for that roller coaster ride through the X-ray machine?

You "should" be able to leave it in the bag (without its PC),,,,,,but as we all know.....TSA makes different rules for different security lines within each airport. Good luck getting a line where the screeners will let it go without the roller coaster ride!!

Best wishes, Dave

I've been leaving it in my computer bag. There's only been one time, out of maybe 2 dozen screenings that I've had to pull it out for a second run through.

I've always just left mine in the case for the ride through the machine. Never been questioned or stopped.
