Flash Memory SD/CF/MS

Using a basic camera that takes SD cards and my Treo 600 for MP3s

Any point in buying "High Speed" 40x, 60x or the like cards.

$10 diiference in the fast ones v normal ones

For those two uses, probably not. If you are talking about using a higher-end camera in burst mode, maybe.

I agree that it's not warranted for the mp3 applications, but I do appreciate the much reduced frame-to-frame lag between shots on the digital camera. It also does playback much faster when reviewing the photos.

I'd say for $10, go for speed.

Also, buy big if the price differential is manageable. A year or two from now, when you might want to use that card in something else, today's sizes might seem a little small.

That was my thinking also-always forward

Spend the money on size, not so much much speed. 1 Gb cards can be had for as little as $50.

On many cameras it won't make a difference unless you have filled the internal buffer (for some cameras several dozen pictures). Buy size not speed.

I just bought a new 1GB Kingston (lifetime warranty) SD memory from ChiefValue.com for US$52.49 DELIVERED (no tax).

For MP3s speed does not matter. Speed matters in high-end digital cameras--the SLR ones.

CrazyOne Nov 18, 2005 10:38 am

Speed also matters for movie mode on many of the most modern consumer-level cameras. Even in a tiny Canon SD500 you want a high-speed SD card if you want to use the 640x480, 30fps movie mode.
