Exchange compatible email/PIM client for Linux
 

Seeing the thread on which Linux to use reminded of something I had been thinking about for a while. I have an old Sony Notebook that is REALLY small and light. It has Redhat on it, an older version but I wouldnt mind updating. I am thinking of converting it to an ultralight for travel when I dont really need my Powerbook, basically email and a little Word type document capability. I have read about the Ximian mail client (Evolution I think it is called) and wondered if people were using it with Exchange? If so how does it work? What versions of Exchange can be used with it? Any other thoughts on its use? Thanks for any comments.

I believe you can now use the client directly with Exchange 2000 and 2003. You used to have to buy come kind of MAPI/Exchange adaptor for it but they don't seem to offer that since 2.2 and claim full compatibility across mail, calendar and tasks.

Evolution (now?) uses Web_DAV, so it's fairly seamless with Exchange.

If you don't care about offline composition, etc., don't forget you can also (unless it hasn't been set up) use Outlook's Web Access client with just a browser, and it's become VERY full featured over recent versions.
