Atomic Wristwatches?

Anybody have one of these watches that calibrates itself from the atomic clock in Colorado?

Can they self-calibrate from anywhere in the world?

Cost? Brands?

Thanks in advance,

Transmitter frequencies in the US and the rest of the world are different. So outside of the US it will be operating as a regular quartz watch. Meaning it may be off by (horrors!) a second or two a month.

nobody makes one yet

nobody makes a truly global "atomic clock" wristwatch.

There are three transmitters around the world, Europe, US, and Asia. I think it is Denver, Berlin and Japan.

Anyway, all freq.s are differant. There ARE some portable travel alarm clocks, which will do all three, most have guts from Oregon Scientific, I am still waiting for BRAUN of GERMANY to make one.

I had a Junghans watch when I lived in Germany, it worked great and got its update daily, but it doesn't work here in the US, at least not the update function.

Junghans DO make US models, but of course they don't get updates anywhere else. I guess there just isn't enough market for it yet.

Casio Waveceptor

These Casio watches seem to be pretty good. Reasonable prices on online watch stores. I have no experience with them but am looking to buy one of these.

nice price point

nice price point, I wonder why they cannot make a world wide version though?

I've seen a world wide version advertised in the skymall catalog.. I've also seen it other places, its just spendy.

i'd like to see taht

I'd like to see one that does all three towers, and radios? I have only seen or heard of ONE tower, and then WORLD TIME ZONE's based on the ONE tower and GMT + - from the tower location. To me, that really isn't world time, since when you are out of country for a long time, the watch is never getting updates.

I'll check the skymall catalogue tomorrow on the way to PEK

Here it is on Amazon for $40. From the product description:
"Our "Global Atomic" watches and clocks have been fitted with additional receiver chips allowing them to receive the precise time from broadcast stations located in North America (Colorado), Europe (England and Germany) and Asia (Japan)."
I have no idea if it really works or not, but Skymall has the same one for $50.

Both Casio and Seiko has them

Casio Waveceptor

Seiko

The usability of the atomic function when travelling is somewhat dodgy with regards to reception etc, but it is a neat feature.
