Have heard of a multi sim card see http://www.sim-max.org/
I have never of a phone with two different sims. Some how I don't think it will work. I have several sims from all over the world. I need a good sim backup. ^

These devices do work; typically they alternate SIMs each time your phone is powered on. First time: T-Mobile, next time Orange, and back and forth.

I've experimented with the dual SIM mechanisms (the on/off variety referenced above). They just dont work very well.

The wacky developers at Benefon once made a phone that took 2 sim cards (The Benefon Duo) but it was never a success.

Sadly the only option is one of those silly dual sim devices, and as hfly says they really don't work very well.

I know a number of people working - traveling with at least 2 fones. When I run a project I need a local number, usually a prepaid card, but also need to carry at least on of my 'home' numbers. I think a dual SIM would be a very marketable item. What would be the biggest technical issue in building something like this??
I am trying to hunt down a Bene Duo - but my initial search not to fruitful.

I seriously doubt you'll find one. They never sold many of them. I once had all the phones they made (track, ESC!, duo) but sold them to private users, this was back in 2000 so these handhelds are probably not around.

WIKI dual SIM phone

These WIKI guys have kicked it up a notch with the analog mobile TV integration. Now, in addition to the dual SIM capability, I can hook up to the network news where ever I am...

Samsung sell a number of dual-SIM phones now, but from experience I wouldn't recommend them.

Saw a few different models of dual sim card phones in Bangkok. The majority were dual band, one was tri band, but didn't find any quad band. The prices were reasonable, about $150 US.

I bought one a bit back. was a dual sim. site claimed it was a tri-band but when I got it, it was dual band. It was useless.

Many of my co-workers in HK who travel frequently to the mainland have dual-SIM phones. They are satisfied with them - say it's much less hassle than switching SIMs at Lo Wu.

I don't know the models available, but this seems like a good indication that viable products are out there. I'll ask more an dpost back next time I'm out there.

My brother-in-law in Kenya has a dual-sim Samsung, not sure on the model. He lives in Kenya where everyone has two or three different mobiles (one for each telco).

It works well, each sim has a different ringtone, and one is set up as a default for outgoing calls, though if I remember correctly it wasn't that hard to switch which line the outgoing call goes through. I believe it was tri-band, bought in Dubai.

Now if anyone can recommend a tri-sim mobile...

I have this quadband dual sim one and I am very satisfied with it.I use it mainly when I travel. Both sim are active at the same time too.
