How to set up wireless router at Marriott
 

I am constantly at full service Marriotts that charge $10 bucks a day to set up your internet. I just got a new wireless router how do I set up the router so that it works with the gateway that they set up. Is the gateway just some url I will just connect with when I enter after I set up the router or will I have to actually plug in each they it renews the gateway and then go through the gateway and then go through? I hope that this makes sense.

First connect your computor directly to the ethernet cable and log on. Log off and power off computor. Connect ethernet cable to the router. Power it on, power computor on and it should connect fine 98+% of the time.

Mac address
 

Okay so it is going by my mac address? So I have to have my computer connected to the cable and then go to the Welcome to Marriott etc... page.

How does it know the mac address of the wireless router?

Not sure if they go by MAC address or by port, but most routers allow you to "clone" the MAC of your PC onto the router. The smart ones can detect and insert it automatically, some require you to hand-enter the MAC you want to use.

Got new airport express
 

I use the Apple AirPort express at Courtyard every week. It is simpler than I ever thought it would be.

All I do is plug in the airport express to the power outlet near the desk where the hotel internet connection is. There is usually a wall lamp or desk lamp with built in power outlet(s). Then I connect the ethernet cable between the hotel connection and the AirPort. The light on it will flash a few times and cycle between green and yellow then finally steady green. At this point I power up my pc and it nearly always finds the signal automatically.

In the rare cases where it doesn't find it automatically I run the pc wireless utility to 'find available wireless networks."

I have *never* had to install the Apple software that came with the device.

Courtyard vs Marriott
 

Courtyard has free internet right? The full service still charge $10 bucks a day. The reason I asked this question was that each day I usually have to go to the gateway and agree to pay for the charge of $10. Sometimes when I have been off for a while it will make me go to the marriott service provider gateway and click the agreement again. Can I still use the airport express.

Please be sure you have all the Windows updates and all your security turned on.

My husband had nothing set up correctly on his laptop and he tried Wifi for the first time at the Sheraton in Miami.

His system was overwhelmed within seconds with all kinds of junk. It took a long time to fix.

I use Apple's airport express at full service Marriotts regularly with a Mac powerbook. It couldn't be more simple. Plug in the airport express to an electrical outlet, connect ethernet cable between the Marriott STSN (or whatever service they have) and the airport express, refresh browser on my computer and up pops the Marriott STSN screen to activate Internet access.

I use a Dlink wireless router and a Windows XP based computer at full service marriots. Follow the same instructions as for th Apple computer. But be CERTAIN you have all your security patches and anti virus software up to date
