I think i picked up my last 1gb SD card for around $60 USD.
If your thinking about maybe getting a CF card for expansion, check out the Hitachi (formerly IBM) MicroDrives. They are hardrives that are the size of your standard CF card and go into just about all CF card slots. Not to mention you can get the 4gb model for $151.25 USD from newegg.com.

I just wish my Axim x30 had a CF slot, so that I could use these!

Go cruise the Hot Deals section at FatWallet for CF/SD rebate deals. I found my 1GB CF card that way.

Don't forget a case. I like my metal Rhinoskin case, although I took the belt clip off.

Flash memory has come down to almost the same price as Microdrives. But Flash memory isat least 10 times faster while using 10 times as little power.

We tried a Microdrive in the Axim x50v and it got really crappy battery life.

Is there a difference between CF or SD cards for battery life? Right now, I just have a 1GB CF card, as that's also compatible with my digital camera.

I forgot about how bad the battery life is with the MicroDrives. Its been a long time since ive owned a PDA with CF.

I would assume that the battery life is going to be about the same. My old Casio BE-300 had a battery life of about 2.5-3 hours with a cf card in and my Dell Axim x30 gets about 3 hours with the SD card in.

I'll third (or is that fourth) the Axim X50v. I recently had a play with a colleague's new toy and definitely preferred it to my IPAQ hx4700 (the closest comparable model to the Dell).

Absolutely. A CF Flash card is just a couple of chips, a Microdrive is a true hard disc with motors, moving heads and electronics.

Ah, but that wasn't the question. CF and SD are both flash cards. The question is whether these two types of flash cards differ in battery draw. That's an interesting question. Anyone here have an answer?

Oops :D

SD uses slightly less power, but the difference is so low that it can be ignored.

There are however differences in power consumption between brands, but again; it is not enough to make a huge difference in battery life.
