Windows Mobile Devices and GPRS Problems

Here's my problem:

I'm currently testing a HTC Blue Angel (iMate PDA2k) and a Samsung i730. What I've observed on both devices is that the data connection occasionally drops (GPRS or 1xRTT/EVDO). For the iMate sometimes I can go to the wireless manager and reselect GPRS while other times I have to do a soft reset and then I can reselect GPRS and get it running again. The carrier is T Mobile for the iMate and Verizon for the i730.

For the Samsung I have to launch Internet Explorer so it will dial the modem. I did find that Verizon automatically disconnects the data line at midnight.

My Blackberry never gives me this problem. I know of others (using iMates) with the same symptoms so I am convinced it is related to the operating system and not the carrier. I am expecting the Windows Mobile devices to behave the same as the Blackberry and automatically re-connect to the data line.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Actually, it probably is the carrier. They all have time limits on their connections. The Blackberry does not as it uses a third party GPRS connection (run by RIM).

Thanks Scott. I can see that makes sense as I have verified that Verizon auto-disconnects their data line connection at midnight so it is likely that T Mobile and Cingular do the same.

I still wonder why the pocket pc devices will not automatically try and reconnect if you've set GPRS as the preferred data connection in Wireless Manager?

I'm digging around in HowardForums too.

My Windows Mobile device reconnects as often as it needs to, or I assume it does as I've never had a problem with it.
