Newegg ad in Hemispheres

This might not be a big deal to most of you, but I thought it was cool nonetheless.

I've been shopping Newegg for years for tech stuff and they've always been good for prices, excellent customer service, and fast shipping. That said, it's been generally known as a "geek" store for the DIY computer guys.

My wife was flipping thru Hemispheres yesterday and they had a large ad featuring laptops, iPod like devices, PDA's, etc. Had two guys on a plane ... one bored and jealous as he looked at the other playing and listening to music with his PDA.

I just thought it was cool that they were appealing to UA travelers. They're a great shop and I'd highly recommend them.

I agree, and have used them for quite a while. I'm glad they are helping support United (by advertising with UA).

They are a very reputable company, IMO.

Just a friendly tip: Just like airline fares and car rental fees, some of the prices at NewEgg can change daily. If you are looking to buy something expensive and poplular (i.e flat screen monitor), but are not in a hurry, watch the prices for several days. They do change. The competition is tough! Also, do NOT trust the search engines (pricegrabber/nextag etc)when it comes to prices for NewEgg, Chief Value, etc. Go to each site to check the current price, and there could be a hundred dollar difference!! :D

Newegg is a terrific place for "toy" shopping. I haven't bought any PC components from anyone but them over the past few years...nice to see them advertising with UA. The "daily" and weekend specials are terrific!

I guess if you aren't lucky enough to have a Fry's nearby, Newegg is OK...

Although the fact that newegg can afford an ad doesn't say too much about the draw of hemispheres... Just got back from the east and had a pretty worn out copy for the beginning of August -- someone's kid had scribbled out the crossword (or perhaps a frustrated flyertalker?)

Fry's is a far cry from what it used to be. I rarely bother going there anymore. Their prices are pretty much at the same level as mainstream chains these days.

Probably why they advertised most of the gizmos that a traveler would buy for entertainment and productivity, and leave the PC parts for the internet and computer magazines.

If anything, it is a captive audience, and most people will at least flip thru Hemispheres at some point along a flight. So it'll get name recognition down the road.

OK? Compared to Fry's, you've got to be kidding. Newegg rocks compared to Frhy's. All the stuff I've gotten from NewEgg has been factory fresh and not open, used, and returned three times like most of the stuff that lines the shelves at Fry's.

Oh, yeah. Newegg can do customer service as well.

Maybe you've been using a different Newegg than I have....

They used to be golden, but, as they've grown, they've gone down hill considerable. The prices are good, but customer service forgot about the service....

This thread is seriously going OT, but since it's still open, I'll chime in.

I don't have a favorite online or bricks-and-mortar electronics store I purchase from. I sometimes go to Best Buy (never Circuit City) to check things out because they have a very good customer-friendly store format that I like. I always just go for the cheapest using pricegrabber.com and have never been disappointed.

I've made dozens of purchases for thousands of dollars with Newegg, and I, too, was very pleased to see their ad in hemispheres. I think they're one of the top internet sellers, excellent prices, and typically decent customer service. I certainly have never had a major issue with newegg.

Well, given the turn this thread has taken :) I'm going to move it to Travel Technology; the mods there can decide if it's best there or somewhere else.

Newegg is great, but just remember when choosing a product to disregard the customer ratings and reviews. Newegg has openly admitted to not permitting any negative reviews.

Superguy Aug 7, 2005 12:38 am

I've seen some nasty reviews in there.

milcrat Aug 7, 2005 6:50 am

wow guess newegg is really getting big
