WiFi and or wireless broadband access in Australia?

I am traveling to Australia (Sydney, Adelaide and Alice Springs) soon and I am checking out my wireless connectivity options.

I have an unlimited t-mobile US hotspot account and a list of the Australia hotspots, but they no longer offer free roaming and it is 18 cents per minute.

While in the US I use a Verizon Wireless CDMA Broadband Card that gives unlimited usage with roughly highspeed dialup in with digital coverage areas and fast broadband in a few cities. Not as good as wifi, but also not restricted to specific business locations.

Finally I have SE P910i (tri-band) with bluetooth I could re-chip for a local provider.

1. Are there any options for unlimited hotspot coverage in Australia?

2. Is an equivelant service to the Verizon card offered in Australia?

3. Any suggestions on local providers for re-chipping?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

...and to clarify, for #1 I don't need free, but I could easily be online a couple hours a day and $20 a day in roaming charges is what I am trying to avoid.

For Sydney only, check out www.unwired.com.au

The CDMA network has the best coverage for your purpose, but it ain't cheap.

For wireless hotspot information, have a look at:

Check iBurst too...

Take a look at iBurst too: http://www.iburst.com.au

Service is around $30/month for unlimited access, and coverage is available throughout SYD, BNE, MEL, CBR, and some other areas of Australia.

They've also got a PC-Card wireless modem (which unwired doesn't seem to have):

I use it inside an office building at the SYD airport, and it works quite well.
