Removing a program
Hi, all. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and knows a solution.
I am trying to clean up my laptop, running XP Professional. I have had some time off and backed up many of my files to DVD. I am not entirely sure which programs I can remove from Add/Remove Programs. Especially all those hotfixes, etc., listed. However, there is an e-mail client used from the past. I want to remove the program, as it is proprietary. When I click change/remove in the list, it says "Error extracting support files. The system cannot find the file specified." In the past, when a program is removed but still shows up in the list, I have the option to remove the program from the list. That is not happening. I know the program is gone. I redownloaded and reinstalled, thinking perhaps if I uninstalled a second time, it might help. No such luck. It showed up 2X in Add/Remove and only one disappeared after uninstall. Any suggestions? Also, please see my other post re: Office. Thanks all! |
TweakUI, one of the Win XP Power Toys from Microsoft, allows you to remove an item from the Add/Remove Programs list so it won't bug you anymore.

I switched to an Apple a few months ago and have never looked back. The great Windows fix - once and for all.
