I have an HP 450cbi . Works great on AC or an internal battery. There is a Canon model that is comparable and it bit more compact, but I've never used it. As with most HP products these days, the hardware works well enough, but the supplied software sucks.

I travel with the Cannon I70 - love the speed, the colour etc.

What I don't like is how fragile it is - first you hold the plastic case together with duct tape - then you have to buy a new one- about every 7 or 8 months :(

Only when I know I have to do a lot of printing and won't be close to a printer. I'm still using an old HP 310, which I've had forever and works well.

The i80 has worked well for me - I've had it a little more than a year. Be prepared to buy lots of ink cartridges though... they're really small. The upside is that they're cheap. The i90 is pretty similar from what I can tell.

Had a HP DeskJet 300 (or maybe 310) before that - had lots of problems with paper handling.

The i80 is just a little bit lighter than the HP, but not by much.

I've been thinking about getting one of those thermal printers -- I think they're made by Pentax. I like the idea of avoiding those expensive little tiny cartridges in other travel printers. I envision being in a hotel somewhere and running out of ink around 9 pm while trying to print out the next day's agenda, and crankily scrambling around to see if there's a Best Buy or something open where I can shell out $60 for another little tiny ink cartridge.

The downside to the Pentax printer, I guess, is having to carry a supply of thermal paper around with you all the time. And if you run out while on the road, it's not as easy to find as regular paper.

Anyone have any experience with the Pentax?

Sigh ... I still miss an old HP (300?) I had. Looked like a brick, weighed about as much as a brick, and was as sturdy as a brick. It just couldn't make the driver jump to Windows XP.

Just use your computer's fax program to print it on the hotel's fax machine. Most don't even charge for incoming faxes.

Good advice

The cartridges are small so you can carry a whole bunch. I carry two boxes one of color and other of bw.

Love the i80. I have used it to print photos on it. Very good quality. I have thought about getting a smaller printer but the quality of print is not that great and they are not as flexible as far as needs go. The canon i80 is a bit bigger but it goes in my roll on and it gives all kinds of different options for printing.
