Technology Gadget Test

As I was reading the Video Camera thread and the fight over "gadget king", and observing that FT'ers like to see who has more miles/nights/stays/rentals, this test popped into my mind.

How many of the PC Magazine 100 Best Products of 2005 do you own/use? Be honest - testing the A9.com search engine once or twice out of curiosity doesn't count

I'll kick it off with 17. And I now have a "to buy" list of cool travel gadgets.

47. I should be ashamed of myself.

Many of the products there are pretty useless, their "best products" is more like a "most paid to us to advertise" list.

I have (or have used) only 6 items from the list. That doesn't surprise me since I'm anti-techno establishment - I go for more off-beat gadgets.

For example; I still use, love, and buy ReplayTV equipment. My house if fully wired, so my only wireless networking is bluetooth for some weather related gadgets and my cell phone.

Wow, I suck... 10....

kiwiox14 Jun 17, 2005 1:10 am

You suck...I only got to 8 :( .

I guess I'm just on the wrong side of the chasm.

11.

There's a lot more where I've got the "previous generation" of what's listed. For example, I've got what was once a higher-end Nikon Coolpix, a 10GB iPod, an older Casio Exlim digital camera, a Motorola v600 instead of a Razr v3, etc. Count by that, and I'm probably somewhere in the low/mid-20s.

Just 32 of the 100, that is horrible!!!!

WHOAitzChRiS Jun 17, 2005 10:03 am

5 outta 100 (#'s 2, 3, 8, 34, 86)

The Winger Jun 17, 2005 10:28 am

Wow, only 9. I consider myself (or my wife does!) an early adopter and have loads of gadgets, but not many from this list.

There are loads on there that I wouldn't consider owning or using, because I have stuff that is better! :p

16, plus a demo of Corel Painter.

I have about 13 other bits of technology about that are equivalent or that I like better or that aren't needed with OS X (e.g. desktop search).

winkydink Jun 17, 2005 12:57 pm

8 here without counting functional equivalents.

Cory Jun 17, 2005 1:58 pm

19 here

elCheapoDeluxe Jun 17, 2005 2:35 pm

4, and some of those don't really count. Do the iTunes music player and iTunes music store really count seperately? Does one really "have" google? I have used it - though it isn't even my first choice search engine. I will admit to Firefox. I'd realisticly give myself a 2 at best.

Drat - I just got Roxio easy media creator. I guess that makes 5 (or 3 by my count)

24 here, wow, they got some obscure things on there.

Only 12. And I thought I was a geek. Well, maybe a poor geek.
