print to pdf file?
 

I'd love to have acrobat, but I don't. And it's expensive.

Can anybody recommend a good (but inexpensive) windows xp printer driver that allows you to create pdf files from any application that does printing?

I'd like it to work from any app with a print menu, but my immediate need is to make it work with powerpoint. OO isn't an option for this right now.

Installs as a printer, works like a dream. Free, and they have a bunch of other free cool stuff too.

It's by far the best freebie one that I have used.

I can vouch for this one...but the full version of Acrobat is very useful to have.

A few of my Windows-using friends who can't be bothered downloading and installing software, and who don't need PDFs often, use this procedure:

1. E-mail me the file. (I have a Mac.)

2. I "print" the file, using the "Save as PDF" button that is standard in every print dialogue box.

3. I e-mail the PDF back to them.

Takes me a few seconds, I'm happy to do it for them within reason. Major limitation is that I need to have an application that will open their file, but so far it's always been for one component of Office or another.

I had forgotten that I normally use ghostview to do this. I would print to a postscript printer on a file, then convert it using ghostview. The cutepdf writer driver allows me to skip the intermediate step. It's perfect for what I need right now.

Open Office has 'export to pdf' right on the file menu, but I have to use powerpoint for this stuff, and OO doesn't import some tables properly from this powerpoint deck. It's too bad that office doesn't have export to PDF built into it.

M$ is not a big supporter of Adobe's file format, I'm afraid. Certainly agree with you though, PDF support should be standard. Less chance of catching a virus and available for free for all operating systems!

That's nothing. At least they can get software to make PDFs if they want to. You should see their jaws drop when I have 15-20 windows open and hit F9.
