Help with wireless card please?
 

"IDE #1 ERROR" I started getting this message on my start up. I have just returned from a trip yesterday and this started appearing.
I am not sure if this is associated with my wireless card not working any more.
I have a Netgear 802.11b 16 bit PCMCIA model MA401.
I am going crazy, should I throw away the card? Could it have "burnt out"?

IDE is related to your harddrive and/or CD drive, IDE1 is usually the CD-rom.

Minimize the number of variables. Remove the card though I don't think this has anything to do with your network card. I do think you need to do a backup as soon as you possibly can. The IDE bus is where you hard drive lives. If you're electromechanically inclined, try reseating the drive and any cables inside the laptop. See if it improves. Do this after you've made the backup. Good luck.

Good point Scott, IDE #1 could be your CD, not the hard drive. I'd still do a backup. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I am backed up. I found out that #1 is my CD/DVD drive. On boot up with the wireless card in, it will not boot, as soon as I remove the card it does.

Try uninstalling the sw & drivers for the Wifi card,do a power cycle restart and reinstall.
