Where to buy XD cards?

Aloha all,

My aunt just bought a new digital camera and needs a XD card with more memory for it. I've never heard of XD cards, but my searches have revealed that they are expensive little things. Does anyone know of the best place to buy a XD card at low price?

Pretty much every computer store will have XD cards, just check places like www.froogle.com www.fatwallet.com or www.bensbargains.net

If the new camera is an Olympus, note that the camera's panorama feature requires an Olympus-brand card. I once found a utility to "restore" the required formatting to a SmartMedia card, but I'm not sure whether a similar utility exists for xD cards.

Bought my 128mb XD card onsale at Best Buy. Can't remember the price as it was about a year ago, but it wasn't bad. At 3.2 mega pixels I can get about 215 pictures on my Fuji.

I've been using XD cards since they came out (love my Olympus) and just got another camera that uses them.

I get all my cards at e-cost (www.ecost.com). If you are paitend and keep checking, you can get 128's (olympus cards with the panaroma feature) branded under other names for as low as $30 (three weeks ago they were $34). They currently have the 128's for as low as $42, but I usually buy only at $35 or less for the 128's. Keep checking every few days, they come up in their Bargain Countdown area frequently.

You can also get them on Ebay for about the same price, I've never gotten one there, but do see the 128's for $35 or so and the 256's for $70 to 80 all the time.

They are extreamly expensive over the counter, get them mail order.

They are very small, and quite durable, I've been told they can survive a trip through a washer and dryer, not that I would every leave two in a shirt pocket and wash them or anything

Costco has them. About a year ago, the 256 mb were $85. I think they are cheaper now. At that time, Costco was cheaper than any of the ebay sellers or anywhere else that I could find.

Costco has the 256 ones on their website for $75, search on XD.

Someday I'll let BJ's expire and join Costco.

This is also a pretty good source, at least for price comparisons.

I've bought Olympus 512MB xD cards for my wife's Olympus Stylus 400 on eBay - just do your research on the seller. Three 512s, 3 batteries, small charged, and we're set for a long trip - with little space taken up. The camera has worked in such places as the very damp Iguazú Falls...

The Fuji cards work well too, of course, but they do not allow the panorama feature, AFAIK.

Do her a favor and have her return the camera. xD-picturecard is going nowhere (no widescale adoption) and will always be quite a bit more expensive than the rest. She'll not be able to walk into a normal store and use a kiosk to make prints directly from the card, either.

Besides, the Olympus/Fuji cameras are not the greatest ones out there.

But it IS one of the more weather-resistant cameras out there, and this was fairly critical. :)
