Data transfer?
I have an old Win2000 laptop with
- seriell/parallel port - no USB - only readable CD-ROM - Ethernet/modem Now I bought a new laptop (Win XP) to take with me on my future travels with - USB - no parallel/seriell - Ethernet/modem How can I transfer my data from the old to the new laptop??? Thanks, Tim |
Ethernet cross cable (or 2 ethernet cables plugged into a hub or switch)
Make sure file/printer sharing is turned on Share the drive on the host PC Go to "my network places" and you'll see the other PC show up. Copy the files simply with drag and drop. |
Sounds great. Thanks. I'll buy the cable now.

Don't forget, you'll also need to turn on the Guest account on your W2K laptop, in order for you to access the files on that laptop.
I think sometimes you can provide the login details for the W2K machine directly from the new WXP machine, but other times the username box is greyed out and you have to type in a password that you don't remember choosing - then you know you have to enable the Guest account on your W2K machine. Should work without problems from then on. |
