Uninstall programs which do not belong on your computer. Sometimes spyware installs programs without your consent in such a way that (almost) no spyware program will recognize as such.

Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs

Thanks for the tip. I did that also because when my scandisk finally worked I could defrag my computer. So I wanted to get off any unwanted programs before I defragged.

If you are going to defrag anyway, try running this package instead:

http://www.oo-software.com/en/produc...efrag/pro.html

It's much much faster than the standard defrag.

Scott, your link was for Spybot. I have 1.2 but 1.3 is now available. I updated to 1.3 and it did find more. I believe 122 problems. I checked the startup manager and all the .exe files are still there. But it is down to 75 files now. I didn't delete 31 from the registry do I guess Spybot might have done a few?
Anyways thanks for the help so far and if you have anymore suggestions on what I could do next it is greatly appreciated.

Despite what JFE says you are alright. :p

I will, funny you mention faster. It had been awhile that I couldn't defrag so it took two hours last night when I finally could. I missed FT. :(

Your best bet is really to manually remove the spyware.

Print out the .exe files that are suspicious, reboot into safe mode and remove them manually. Check the startup group, check the registry again, check all running tasks for suspicious items etc...

I've cleaned a lot of PC's and there really isn't a single perfect spyware killer.

COnsidering how nasty your infection sounds it might be "Coolwebsearch", the post vile, vicious POS there is.

TWO hours?

I have 1.6Tb of storage to defrgment, so I was happy to get O&O as it runs in the background keeping things neat and tidy all the time instead of me having to run windows defrag once a month (used to take 3 days to defrgent everything :D)
