igo juice

I appologize in advance if this isn't the proper place to pose this question, but I think I've read a few comments regarding this in the past on this forum.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150. I would like to procure myself some "juice" to power it up in flight. :-) I checked the igounited.com website and they offer it for sell, however the closes inspiron model they show on the chart is the 5000. I'm assuming the 5150 is part of that group, but wanted to solicit opinions from those who may be using the igo juice product on a 5150. Is it working ok for you so far?

I've had an iGo juice for about 9 months. I couldn't face buying a 70s style Targus adaptor. :)

Good
- It covers my power needs in Ireland/US/Brazil and in the air with AA
- Stylish looks and and the blue light given off is just right for night flights.
- I have used it for hours on end off UK/Irish/Brazilian mains with no overheating problems.

Bad
- Not particularly light and compact for travelling
- Sometimes the blue light flashes on and off resulting in no power going to the computer. It seems to be related to the connection coming out of the adapator working itself a little loose, and strangely is more prevalent on certain sockets within the house. More a niggle than a problem
- It was quite hard to find accurate info on which of the two models had the correct tip for my laptop. IIRC websites had conflicting info.

Overall I'm quite happy with it.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop so it's quite old. The adaptor comes with a variety of tips and whilst many Dell models are listed in my compatibility guide the 5150 is not one of them. FWIW, the tip for the 5000 is 7mm sq with a curved top with 3 small female sockets and 3 guiding grooves on the middle top, and 2 bottom corners.

I bought an Igo Juice from newegg.com in March and it works great with my IBM T41. Also came with several other tips including the Dell "3 holer' mentioned in previous thread. So far, this unit has worked flawlessly (used daily) and replaced my old Targus adapter as well as the IBM AC adapter that came with the unit. I paid about $70 including shipping when I bought it.

You have to be careful with them. If the 5150 is not listed as compatible, then you need to more research. (ask them).

There's no igo products available for the 600m, for example, and they've told me they don't intend to make them. I had to buy the small (credit-card sized) targus adaptor for air use, and it only runs the 600m in low power mode. Dell must have some proprietary stuff in their power adaptor for the 600m. The notebook bios can sense when you aren't using the normal a/c adaptor.

You have to buy the Dell adapter if you want full power mode for the 600m. Its made by igo, and presumably they signed a deal with Dell that doesn't allow them to sell an igo model to compete.

I've never seen one that works with the 600m. The only I can find (and purchased) is this one (the Targus credit-card sized adaptor):

Can you provide a link, specifically for the 600m?

Thanks,

Since I posted the above reply, I can now find an igo product and tips for the PPS from both Dell and IGO. I ordered one from Dell for the 600m.

It must have just showed up. They weren't there when I posted the reply above this post.

Does your computer use 65W or 90W?

Check to see if your computer needs a 65W or 90W adapter. The problem I ran into is that I had a Dell Latitude 840 and it needed an 90W, which IGO didn't support. I fixed that problem by getting rid of my brick (the 840) and getting a C640 which runs on 65W. I have had a Juice for about a year and I love it. Since I got it, I managed to get rid of the chargers for both of my cell phones and soon I will do the same for my IPOD.

If it works with your computer, I highly recommend it!

I have an Inspiron 600m. That model is listed on the page I linked to above as "compatible".

Thanks .. I already ordered it with the PPS adaptor for my t616. The only thing I can't tell from their (Dell) website is if I have to order the air adaptor for the UA style plug separately or not. It looks like it comes with the cigarette lighter adaptor, and from my older igo product, the UA adaptor sort of plugs into that, if I'm remembering correctly, converting the cigarette adaptor to a UA style plug. Just not sure if it comes with it or not. We'll see next week.

fyi .. these items were discounted at the Dell SB website, and had free shipping for the continental US.

I also had a problem with the female connector (the one on the cord) on the DC power cord. I had the habit of storing the unit in its carry pouch with the cords still coonnected. This over time, opened the gap of the pin sockets and made for a off/on connection. Rather than using a hammer, I put the connector between the desk and its drawer, and slammed the draw shut! This flattened the pins and had no further trouble :)

BTW I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop which is rated at 20 volts @ 3.5 amps. or 70 watts. Igo 65 watt unit works just fine.

I think that's becuase the Juice is rated at 70W max output. Where I had problems was when I tried to use a Latitude 840 that required 90W input.

But you shouldn't have to do that

I too had this problem, the end that attaches to the brick that's on the notebook side. From what I can determine it's a matter of heat-the Damn cords get hot\warm enuff to soften the vinyl boot up. The first one I had completely seperated- I mean like feel apart in my hands-it's a wonder I wasn't shocked.
Bought a replacement($20.00 for JUST the cable) used it for about 3 weeks and now it's got a case of the wiggles. This time it seems that the male plug part is a tad bit smaller than the female part(isn't that always the case). So my power icon on my IBM A30p keeps flashing on-off, on-off. Too troublesome for me. The original adapter\cable was just slightly out of warranty. My 2 cents-another great marketing concept, doesn't work well in the long run, and it's been put on the shelf with a lot of other useless computer crap-like floppy disks

Your right - shouldn't have to

Get the hammer! Get the pins flatter and they will fit tighter.

I have a relatively new Dell branded igo which I used on my previous Dell D600 laptop (not the 3 pong adapter but the round one) for 1 month. If anyone is interested, I'll sell it at a good price.

I'm now using the regular igo Juice for my T41.
