Accessing Outlook data via the internet
 

I was wondering if anyone has been able to access their outlook data (contacts and calendar) through the internet. My ipaq just gave up on me and I don't want to buy a new one before I leave a few days from now. I am aware of pcanywhere but I find it too expensive.

Are there any other options?

I would recommend TightVNC remote desktop. Its a GNU free remote control software package derived from the popular VNC software. With TightVNC, you can see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer

I have the server installed as a service on 2 of my XP machines with each configured to listen on a different port # on my wireless router. I use IE or Netscape as a client to access any of them from internet cafes from all over the world. Only difficulty is that you need to know your IP address. As a result, I have less a need for my PDA and synching since I can access my Outlook emails, calendar, and contacts. I also have access to my other PCs which run as a trading workstation.

Thanks lesenok! Maybe my post was not entirely clear, though. What I'm really looking for is something that lets me upload/synchronise my outlook data. I can't leave my pc on while I'm overseas for a month and also my satellite internet connection is not stable enough - it disconnects every once in a while...

All I need is access static outlook data (contacts/calendar) - I'm less interested (although it would be fab!) in being able to edit the information and then synchronise it when returning.

In that case, then why not export your contact/calendar into flat files from Outlook and then email them as attach to your yahoo or hotmail.

Another option is that Yahoo has TrueSync that allow you to sync your Outlook contact/calendar to an Yahoo email account.

Just copy your outlook.pst to your laptop?

I use the Yahoo TrueSync Option - I the only downside is that it does funny things to multi-day appointments set up in Outlook, but you can easily add things to Yahoo while you are on the road and then Sync them back to Outlook on your return ( btw this worked great in OUtlook 2000 but it is having "issues" with OUtlook 2003 so you many want to test it before you leave)

Have you considered printing your calendar and contact list to paper and taking it with you? :D

That way, you'll have access to all you data even when you're not at an internet cafe.

I don't know how much time you'll need to access the data while on the road, but PCAnyWhere does offer a free (though somewhat time limited) 30 day free trial.

Nah, that would be way too easy :D

You can get a palm for under $100 now and just copy the data over to that for the trip, then give it as a gift to somebody in the office for their birthday or something.

I like the yahoo solution too, I use that as a backup for my data.
