You need the patch linked in the story above if:

• Click Start, select Settings, select Control Panel, then double-click the System icon.

• Click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.

• Open the Device Manager

• Expand the Disk Drives section to view all hard disk drives in the system, and look for a drive model number that reads HTS726060M9AT00.

I had IBM replace my harddrive on my X31 last week and not sure if it is related...it is a Hitachi drive.

This applied to my T41p, so thanks for the tip. It's irritating that the IBM Access Connector and the Access IBM Message Center didn't notify me about it.

This doesn't apply to all drives matching the description above. I purchased a 7k60 aftermarket. It identifies itself as a HTS726060M9AT00. After running the diskinfo.exe utility on IBM's site, it says "no update required".

The patch is for a certain set of early 7200rpm drives. Of the 5 I have in various machines only 2 needed the update.
