Better value if what you value most is harddrive space. Not the market the mini is really after.

Which is why I'm holding off. I value more the ability to carry around my entire music collection then the size/coolness factor that a mini brings. So for me, the mini isn't such a good value.

Rumours are starting to pop up, btw, about the 4th gen. iPod.

Supposedly, it's going to have a colour display. Rumour also has it that you'll be able to view photos on it and will have video-out.

1000 MP3's is nice, but 40 hours of movies is better.

While I agree that a video-pod would be nice, I just don't see myself using one as much. I like to listen to music over and over again. Movies, not so much.

Music is also easily downloadable and ripped from CD's.

Gold. My wife's is blue. I also have a DellPod 20 gig that I cant fill so Im not worried about the space too much. Ill put the greatest hits (well virtually all of the hits) on the mini. I will probably end up using both at times, but mainly the mini.

Just got mine

I picked up a 20 gig Ipod from a local dept store today, with the docking station and remote included for $420 AUS.

I think that that is about 3 British pounds :D

I am currently loading on my 33rd CD and have about 50-60 to go....
I have teamed up the Ipod with my Sony NC headphones, well worth it from what I have heard, but has anyone tried the QC2's with the Ipod?

Cheers all and thanks for the tips on Ipod.

IainF

ps This blows away my wifes Sony MD player !!!!

QC2 and iPod

I've got a Gen 1 5gb iPod that's been my companion for the last several years (picked it up shortly after they were announced). I had it paired with the Sony NC cans until recently when I finally splurged on the Bose QC2's.

I thought the combination sounded excellent if a little low on the volume until I discovered the magic switch on the QC2 on the bit that attaches the cable to the 'phones. Then bang, plenty of volume. The iPod fits nicely in the QC2 case as well.

It's a killer setup for travel as far as I'm concerned.

And no joy for me when it comes to the Ipod mini. I also keep my DellPod in my Bose QC2 case, it is a nice arrangement. At least I had the Dellpod on my trip to Tokyo 2 weekends ago. But as to the Ipod mini, still waiting. Sent the order in a little over 3 weeks ago. They said it would ship by April 8, which was 3 weeks from the order date. I called on the 6th and they assured me no problem for shipping on the 8th. Got an email the evening of the 7th, telling me it would be another 3 weeks. Wasnt exactly pleased by that. Checked around and no one else has them either. Thought about canceling and getting one of the other small units like the Rio but decided it wasnt worth the effort to do the research and decide which to get. I dont have much travel coming up in the next couple weeks anyway. Just 2 or 3 short trips. Still pretty disappointing however, especially the last minute switch on shipping dates.

I could have sworn that i saw the mini ipod in stock at the Apple Store in Chicago the other day...

GadgetFreak Apr 11, 2004 10:22 am

Perhaps, I didnt check that far away :( I checked the one here in the burbs by me and was in the city yesterday and checked at the one in Soho. Also checked J&R and a few other internet outlets and no luck.

chichow Apr 13, 2004 5:33 am

if it was last weekend in the north michigan ave store in chicago, they did not have the mini in stock. demo units to use, but actual ones were being quoted at a 2-3 week shipment.

ScottC Apr 13, 2004 6:30 am

Reports now say that the mini is having major problems with it's supplied headphones, perhaps that explains the delay.

CrazyOne Apr 13, 2004 4:04 pm

I read today that Apple was offering to substitute the 15GB normal-sized iPod for the same price, for those who didn't want to keep waiting. I gather this applies only to direct orders from the online Apple Store and not those from resellers.

I am debating getting a mini pod for one reason only. I want to use it while running/exercising and the bigger ones are just sooo big. Then again, I have a yepp which holds 3 cds, but it has a radio, armband and works great for the gym.

Get a Rio Karma. Despite some minor issues, I love mine
