iGo Juice question
 

I just found out that I will be flying from JFK - SFO each week till June. I want to invest in an adapter for my IBM T30 that I can use while on planes (most likely primarily AA). I have seen a lot of recommendations here for the iGo Juice - but at least one user reported they couldn't run their DVDs using the device. Can anyone else tell me what their experience has been? I really would like an adapter that will allow me to watch DVDs.

I never had any problems with the Juice. The major reason I bought it was to watch DVDs on long hauls, and I never had any problems at all using it with my Sony laptop for that purpose. Of course, then I went and left it in the seatback pocket a few weeks ago and now have to come to terms with buying a new one.

IIRC the T30 series of laptops draw a maximum of 72 watts. The iGO Juice (and the power systems on the airplanes) are designed to provide 70 watts.

Since the power figure is so close, there's a good chance that the plus-minus tolerance is within the ability of the Juice unit. I'd call iGo's tech support and verify (they do list a tip for many ThinkPad models including the T30, and I believe they test each machine before putting it on the list). My Juice unit has performed flawlessly (my laptop only draws 47 watts). I believe the person who posted about problems watching DVDs had a laptop that well exceeded the +70 watt limitation.

After being a complete dipstick and leaving my Targus adapter on an AA flight over the weekend, I ordered an Igo Juice last night from www.newegg.com . The price on the Igo website is $119, but Newegg had the exact same model for $69.93, no tax, including shipping. It comes with several adapters including those for the IBM T20/30/40 families of laptops.

Sounds like this is a great unit, eliminating the need to carry an air/auto power adapter as well as the stock factory AC adapter.

Thanks for the tip. It's at $72.00 now, but it is still a lot easier to justify a replacement unit at that price.

I recently got a Juice from ecost. I haven't travelled with it yet. It burns CDs just fine though, I can attest to that.

I got the iGo from eCost too.

seems to work fine. It is BIGGER than the Thinkpad powersupply though.

I broke my own rule too. On a mid con flight to BWI, I thought I would use my iGo, but the power ports on the 757 in domestic F were boarded up. BOOOOOO
