i like the look of this, and hope it's really as good as it sounds.

ever since my old (and greatly missed) apple powerbook duo packed up, i don't think there's been quite such a slick piece of portable computing. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

Definetly part of a new "trend", called Ultra PC's.

Recently, I pointed out the OQO device.

It will be interesting to see where this trend goes.

Dynamism has some really tiny laptops available now. There's a 1.7 pound Sony x505 that looks really sweet. Carbon fiber, Pentium M 1ghz processor, 10.4" XGA TFT display.

The oOo device was talked about for almost 2 years. I bet they will never release it.

FlipStart 1.0 will now ship in late march for $1.999.

*1.1 GHz IntelŪ PentiumŪ M, ULV
*512MB RAM
*Resolution: 1024 x 600 wide SVGA
*5.9” x 4.5” x 1.35” with slimline Battery
*Battery capacity, standard: 3–6 hours, slimline: 1-3 hours

This really took a long time to come out, has anyone preordered it yet?

My opinion is that it will have a very tough time competing with the next gen smartphones, with instant on, built-in everything capabilities.

Agreed. I'm not sure what niche this is trying to fill at that price point. I'm not giving up a powerful laptop in favor of this. And it's obviously not replacing my mobile device. Why am I going to drop $1200 on this thing?

CPRich Mar 9, 2007 11:25 am

Worst of both worlds, more expensive than both, IMHO.

ScottC Mar 9, 2007 11:42 am

Underpowered, too expensive and entering the market 2 years too late.

Dooooooooooomed.

I'm waiting for some manufacturer to create a Pocket PC device with
LCD (accelerometer) glasses that emulate a multi-32" LCD screens as you turn your head... and also when you look down, you see a virtual full size keyboard that you "tap" away at. ( rings on your fingers are accelerometers, bluetooth to the pocket PC ).

Ultralight weight, zero tray footprint.

Technology is mostly available today ( OK the ring accelerometers with blue tooth need a bit more miniturization) ... just needs to be made cheap and mass produced.

I bet such devices will be generally available within 10 years or so.

This is supposed to compete with the Sony UX how?
