air power adapters

I'm thinking of getting either a Kensington or iGo Juice airplane power adapter, with a slight preference for the iGo as it also functions as an ac adapter (meaning one less thing to pack).

Anyone have any strong preferences?

A very strong preference for the Igo for exactly the reason you said. Moreover, I have adaptors for my Treo, IPAQ and one of my cell phones to use with it. This lets me carry it all on one pack. Plus as an added benefit, lots of hotel rooms and airport lounges are a bit deficient in electric sockets in my experience, it is nice to plug a computer and PDA into the same socket. The same obviously true on planes as well

Someone on Amazon complained about reliability: "While the iGo Juice is a great idea and potentially useful for travellers, after 4 uses the end that connects to the PC adapter snapped right off. The design of the tip is far too flimsy especially for travel."

Sounds as if you don't regard it as flimsy?

Had one maybe a year. Travel about 200,000 miles a year or more. Almost always take it with me even when I dont take a computer (which is seldom) since I use it for other devices. No problems with it breaking. The first one I got, which was not long after they came out, arrived and died completely within 10 seconds. I called their tech support, who asked me a couple questions then FedExed me another one and an RMA form to send the old one back so they could try to figure out what was wrong. I wasnt happy about the initial failure but it happens. I dont really consider it a problem if they have a good CS response which in this case I thought they did. And no problems with this one with very heavy use. I think it is sturdy rather than flimsy. The initial unit had an internal problem, it wasnt something breaking off.

Kensington also does an OEM version of Igo (AC/DC)... See: http://www.kensington.com/html/3722.html

The Kensington OEM version seems more expensive than the igo, at least as far as I can tell.

The regular Kensington is $65, the igo $85 and the Kensington OEM is $98 ($93 for the 90w version), in each case including shipping, based on www.pricegrabber.com
