Citrix purchasing GoToMyPc
 

I know there are users of one or the other here, or both.

Details on both companies websites.

I **love* Citrix and never took GoToMyPc serious, guess I underestimated them...

However, windows XP users can use remote desktop for free, or other OS's can just install VNC so I don't really see any added bonus of GTMPC...

Oh, so handing over your complete PC security to a third party web based solution IS secure? No thank you, I'll keep to my own security.

The huge bonus as I see it is that you can go to any machine anywhere and connect to another computer, without having to worry about opening up the firewall, without having to have laplink or VPN software installed, just anything with a browser.

If you are traveling with a laptop with citrix or a VPN on it and have a tunnel to your PC then that's fine, but if you are just traveling and want to swing by an airport terminal and get hold of something you forgot, then it's great.

It's certainly not the same as using a VPN or Citrix, but it's way easier for what it does.

so I wonder if they see GTMPC as a poor mans NFuse - I just dont get this

I really don't understand the strategy play here.

GTMPC is more of a remote desktop/sharing solution.

I view (and use Citrix MF and NFuse) for enterprise wide application sharing over questionable WAN links, as well as publishing applications for business partners and customers to utilize (NFuse).

Again, perhaps I've spent the end of the year being overly technical and not hanging around with our business analysts enough, but I don't get this at all.

Instead of investing this much in a second rate consumer product I'd much rather see Citrix make a "personal" version of their product, with their technology and suitable for workstation OS's.
