New PDA?
 

Which should I go for? At the moment I'm torn between the Palm Tungsten T3 and the HP Ipaq 2120. I think the T3 is fantastic value for money but I'm not sure if it can compete with MS for email, web surfing and general multi media.

I use my existing (and very long in the tooth) Handspring Visor for organising, very basic web browsing, email (no attachments at the moment) and IM (AOL only - I couldn't find an MSN compatible client).

I'd pick one of the new ipaq's. The 2120 only has Bluetooth but the new 4150 has Bluetooth AND WiFi. As an SD/IO WiFi card will cost you around $150 it's cheaper to get it all in one. T3 cost $399, for around $420 you'll get the ipaq. The ipaq has msn of course, plus there is a good AIM client. It has a great email client and with the www.thunderhawk.com browser you'll get a thin-client browser that whoops the palms a$$ any time. It does MP3, OGG, DiVX etc...

PLUS, the ipaq has more business applications like VPN software, file encryption and natuarally the standard suite of pocket office apps like word and excel.

Thanks. Looks like an IPAQ for me. As much as I dislike MSFT, they appear to be giving the buying public pretty much what it's asking for when it comes to PDAs.

I largely aree about picking the IPAQ. However, you can get VPN for the Palm and the Office applications on the Palm now work on native MS Office file formats. There is getting to be fewer and fewer differences between them. I use both and the one thing I find much better on the IPAQ is synching to Outlook, especially mail. Calander etc sync fine on the Palm but they are noticeably slower although I wonder if that is do to the presence of DataViz. But Outlook mail is definately much better on the IPAQ.

Hotsync doesn't come close to Activesync. I also like being able to browse the directory structure of PocketPC's.

This is without a doubt the best browser you can possibly run on the PocketPC, absolutely amazing technology.

Looks really sweet on spect. But I had heard so many horror stories about Toshiba and the 74x series.

740 series was dreadful and many bugs never got resolved. Even though the e800's 480*640 screen is really nice, there are virtually no applications that can make use of it.

This is a redundant post. Sorry about that. I want to get as many opinions as possible.

I am considering purchasing a PDA. I would probably be a low-end user not relying on connectivity and other gadgets. I want a reliable PDA that would replace my Franklin Planner. I am currently leaning towards the Dell Axim X5 (while I know this PDA is slightly larger than others, the size is acceptable with me). I am leaning for a higher processor speed incase I want to add peripherals in the future. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for one but I want quality. Any suggestions? The Axim is actually a pretty safe bet. Although I think you should look at the new Axim X3 series, for just $29 more you get a device that is smaller, has a better screen, better battery etc...

I love my Axim 5. I got it at a discount at the Dell Outlet http://outlet.dell.com I saved about $70-80 if memory serves.
