Safely ensconced in my hotel, I wanted to record the Yankees-Red Sox game while I was in meetings. I had the right equipment with me, obviously. But then I was confronted by the evil system called "LodgeNet."

Totally not worth it.

It's easier to bring a universal programming remote, like a full blown Philips RC5 and use the programming codes to "open up" certain channels http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

Many years ago, it was very easy to hack the lodgenet or spectravision boxes. All you needed was an allen wrench to open the back of the box and note the on/off switches on the back of the box. (small toggle pins) Record the current settings, reset to zero and tada...Free movies. You just needed to put the settings back when you left.

Most cable systems still have channels (non on demand channels) distributed as standard channels...

What's a Philips RC5? I got myself a Philips/Magnavox PM8TSMD. Supposed to support (and preprogrammed for) 325 brands including Lodgenet and Spectravision. Don't have a hotel stay booked in the near future to test it though.
