All my mp3's are legal, and all are ripped at either 160k or 192k.

I can't believe you're saying MD is best. How can you top carrying every cd I own, usb 2.0 transfer rate, 14+ hours run time, laptop storage, and an open format vs. a Sony all proprietary system that limits what you can do with your own legally ripped music?

I use to own a Minidisc player, but stopped using it after I got my gen 1 iPod.

It was always a pain to remember to bring my favorite discs and to keep records of what songs were on which disc.

Now everything is in one portable device, on my Powerbook, and on the CDs.

I don't have many songs though, only around 1100, around 4.3 GBs

I dropped it a few times, but it still works though is a bit dented. I don't expect that I will need a replacement for at least a few more years.

OK, truth be told: the only reason I big on the MD format is that my wife wouldn't let me buy an Ipod. I had to sneak-buy the minidisc, so I gotta justify it to myself somehow!

Besides, I don't wanna carry my entire collection with me. I'm fine with USB 1.1 (I'm in no rush), and the sony prop software hasn't hindered me one bit.

Bikergirl, you can use the iPod along with the excellend ephPod software on Windows and sync the music back and forth. ephPod is free and is eons better than that MusicMatch crap.

Before you buy an ipod listen to other players. Ipod is the most popular player because it is the most popular player. It's simple and it works. I'm not saying it sounds bad. It's fine. But there are other things that sound better. I tunes is probably the best proprietary software though. Gigabeat room, SS, and the mrobe thing are much worse. Why can't everything just be drap and drop and support playlists on the fly? Seems like that would keep development costs down.

I suspect he may have made a decision in the 2+ years since the last post. ;)
