Does T-mobile bill phone calls as "send-to-end" -- meaning you get charged even if the call recipient does not pick up the phone?

My perspective may be helpful. I use Microsoft Exchange Server and Blackberry through Mobiltex. My wife who is not connected to a corporate network, uses Sprint with its webs service, Treo Mail and a Treo 300.

My Blackberry provides always on service connected to numerous email accounts.. The Treo mail requires an internet based email such as Hotmail. A service provider based email is far more flexible.

My Blackberry synchs with my calendar wirelessly, so others in the office can view my calendar in real time.

But with the Treo my wife can make phone calls and surf the net and the Treo is a credible PDA. She likes it enough that she’s willing to put up with Hotmail and Sprint. Her combination is much cheaper too.

The ideal solution for a non network based device is one that is a phone, a PDA like my new HP 1940, with a high speed wireless connection to the web and with connection to any email account through Outlook with complete synch. I bet we’ll have it in the next year or two.

traveler123, how is your reception? Are messages sent and received pretty quickly? How does your Blackberry workinside buildings and when you travel?

I'm not a geek so I have no idea why the thing works so well. But it virtually works everywhere and it's fast. I've sent email and received responses in minutes.

One complaint is that it can't do much. Well we have people in our office who pride themselves in knowning nothing about technology. They're all smart people but they won't get involved with anything the slightest gleeky. Well everyone loves the Blackberry probably because it's so simple. For example, we really need a keyboard for our people. Many of them would never dream of "learning" a computer scribble, I'm included in that category.

If you want instant on email Blackberry is the way to go. But if you're not on a corporate network with competent people, I've heard that Blackberry can be a handful. I don't know anyone with it on their PC only. I think they sell it that way but I bet it's hard to configure and very expensive.

It's not a toy.

The newer Blackberries actually have quite a lot of applications. Handango sells everything from IM applications to games for RIM handhelds:

Especially for the 67XX series there are some great apps like webbrowsers, expense management and cool games...

Thanks. In that case, it generally sounds like an ideal replacement for my 9210. I will probably get one as soon as T-Mobile is able to sell me one (they have them in stock but the sales people haven't been programmed yet).

Certainly in Europe, I've not had any problems roaming with GPRS (that said, I'm really not roaming in Europe often enough to have any meaningful data on reliability).

For short sessions it's not been much of a problem, it's always on that poses a problem on roaming GPRS. Hopefully Nokia's replacement for the 9210 will be out soon...

I am trying out an AT&T Wireless GSM/GPRS Blackberry 6210. I am definitely hooked.

I am shortly getting a T-Mobile 7230 which is color, triband, with speaker phone.

What I am so impressed with is the form factor, the weight, the user interface, everything about this Blackberry seems high quality.

I will continue to maintain Verizon as I find their network the best in the USA and I have a contract with them. Their system is extremely good all over USA.

But this Blackberry seems wonderful, so far. I am getting voice service so I will have two cellphones and see how things go. I might sell my Kyocera on eBay soon and get a new replacement for my Verizon phone, perhaps with a camera.

Any suggestions http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif
