What kind of adapters do I need....

Traveling to England, Germany & Italy.

I would like to bring my laptop, and camcorder. My digital camera works off of AA batteries.

- As to the laptop (HP), I guess I need a power adapter for the plane. What kind of converter do I need to recharge the battery in those countries? Is it safe?

- Same question for the camcorder; can I just use an adapter to recharge it, and again, is it safe?

Sorry for my ignorace on these issue, I haven't travelled overseas with this technology before. Thanks!

The UK uses a different plug than Continental Europe. Get yourself a universal plug adapter (Radioshack, Rand McNally, Brookstone etc...) will have them.

Check the adapters, most recent technology will be 100-240volts and will therefore work just fine.

As for the laptop, it depends on the airline you are flying, if the airline uses the "Empower" system you might want to go to http://www.targus.com/accessories_power.asp to order an air/auto adapter (they also have a universal plug adapter for Europe so you can do one-stop-shopping).

What he just said.

Also for the batteries, there are a growing number of very compact 110/240 volt chargers out there, the type that holds four batteries and has a pop up plug you can stick an adapter on.

One good idea is to just buy adapters at the airport when you arrive in the new country.

They will be a little more expensive that way, but you'll know for sure that it is exactly what is needed in that country.

Better to spend an extra buck or two than put your faith (and laptop) in the hands of the kid at Radio Shack who is "pretty sure" it's the right one for that country.

We pass the kit around at my company to those traveling across the Pond.
