airplane power plug for dell

Maybe I'm searching under the wrong name of the product, but can someone help me. I have a Dell Latitude laptop and am tired of the battery running out on long trips. Instead of buying a spare battery, I would like to hook up to the planes power ports. Where can I get the power plug? What is the real name of the product? How much do they generally cost?

Thanks.

If you do a search for "EMPOWER" in this forum you will find what you need.

Otherwise a good start is either www.targus.com or www.apc.com as they both make power converters for the Dell you have.

There are 2 options: Empower (the name of the power adapter in the seat) that provides "DC" power to your notebook replacing the existing power supply and Empower to AC meaning it converts the low power seat outlet into 110V.

Other choice is a device like Igo's Juice ( http://www.igo.com )

Replaces the AC adapter and also provides the ability to run on an airplane (in one single adapter)... ScottC's suggestions are good. It all boils down to how much money you want to spend and how much extra stuff you want to carry around.

Best bet: APC's TravelPower powered case in either "'pleather" 1100 cu in. or nylon 1,300 cu in with a AC/DC power pack that fits nearly everything. Main advantage (actually the advantage is the power adapter , you have to buy the case to get it) is that it takes AC AND DC input, e.g. the wall socket at home or hotel, the car cigar lighter and the 15V Empower port on the plane and outputs anything from 14 to 20 V DC and has 8 power adapter ends to fit your laptop.

I have an Acer Centrino and this was the only thing that had the power and the right tip. There is the standard Dell tip inside.

Available everywhere, e.g. Best Buy.

You don't hve to carry your AC power supply any more just one for AC and DC.
